The oldest church
De Oude Kerk
You are now at a heart of De Wallen neighbourhood. It's the oldest part of Amsterdam and a place where you can see some of its narrowest canals and houses. Large church in front of you is De Oude Kerk. It's name could be translated as the 'old church' from Dutch. Founded at the beginning of the 13th Century, this is the oldest building in Amsterdam today. It was rebuilt throughout a time. And majority of today's building is from the 15th Century. It was one of the biggest buildings in the city during the Rembrandt's time. And definitely an important place for our painter.
