The monastery of care
Monastery Kimiseos Theotokou Ierousalim
The historic monastery Kimiseos Theotokou Ierousalim (Annunciation of Theotokos Jerusalem) basks on the eastern side of Mt Parnassus and is five kilometres from Davleia. It was most probably founded in 1088 A.D., while it does not stand in its original form, as two churches must have stood in its place before, which were destroyed by an earthquake and fires. The monastery’s activities during Ottoman rule are a special chapter in its history. The monks cared for the sick and wounded, they supported fighters’ families, and they resupplied the kleftes, until the monastery was besieged and destroyed by the Turks.
